Our Services

Enhanced Access

Our PCN practices work together to offer our patients additional appointments during the day, as well as evening and weekend appointments. That means you will be able to see a GP or an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) at a time which is most convenient for you.

Please note: these appointments may be held in different venues from your registered practice, but you will still be able to attend them.  You may find it preferable to attend your registered practice, but the option is there for you as patients. *This is not a walk-in service, appointments must be booked in advance by your registered practice*

Acute Home Visiting Service

Our PCN Nursing Team offer a home visiting service to housebound patients who require an acute home visit and are at higher risk of deteriorating health and hospital admissions. Not only does this support the timely assessment and support of our housebound patients but it allows our GPs more time to focus on visits involving complex end of life care and other vulnerable patients.

Chronic Disease Management Service

Our Nurse Associate and Health Care Assistant deliver our Chronic Disease management service to offer support for our patients with chronic diseases including asthma, COPD, diabetes and hypertension. These appointments consist of phone calls as well as home visits to housebound and/or particularly frail patients.

LARC (Long Acting Reversible Contraception)

Brighter Birkenhead was the first PCN on the Wirral to deliver this service after the need to improve the provision of women’s reproductive health services was recognised in the National Women’s Health Strategy (2022), where it was acknowledged that many women move from service to service to have their basic reproductive health needs met.

Our LARC service was designed to improve accessibility of LARC for our patients by joining together and adopting an inter-practice referral model to enable all eligible patients within the PCN to access the service.

You can access this service by asking your doctor or nurse or, you can also refer yourself to the LARC service by filling out this LARC service self referral form *Please note this service is only available to patients registered with one of our PCN practices.

If you have any questions please email cmicb-wi.bbpcnlarcreferrals@nhs.net

LEAP (Adult ADHD Clinic)

The PCN Leap Clinic helps to manage patients with ADHD who have been discharged from secondary care back into primary care/their GP surgery for monitoring and medication reviews. We offer two clinic types, diagnostic assessment and reviews, have a team of specialist GPs to provide more accessible support patients with ADHD whilst supporting the demand on secondary care services.

Walk-In Smear Clinic

We offer a walk-in smear clinic at St catherine’s Surgery (second floor) every Tuesday 1pm-5pm. We understand you might find having a smear test difficult for lots of reasons. If you want to ask questions, talk through concerns, or have your test, come and join us for a chat and support.

Spirometry Clinic

Spirometry is a lung function test. It measures how much air you can breathe out in one forced breath. It can help diagnose and monitor chronic lung conditions such as asthma and COPD. Our specialist nurse will perform the test, as well as interpret the results, make a diagnosis, prescribe medication and inform your GP of the results and treatment plan.
