Vicky

I am Vicky and I am your Health Coach for Brighter Birkenhead and I have been in post now since October 2020.

My health coach role requires me to support persons by providing non-clinical interventions to help improve mental and physical health focusing on lifestyle factors. I devise personalised plans based on detailed conversations with patients over their existing health conditions and current lifestyle, taking into account individual needs and preferences. Through this I fulfil a dual function by supporting patients in abandoning sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy habits and helping reduce the need to see a GP. I provide motivation and encouragement for people to increase physical activity, guidance on healthy eating, weight loss and support people to make lasting lifestyle changes to facilitate the prevention and management of medical conditions.

Health and wellbeing is something I am extremely passionate about and I enjoy supporting people to achieve their goals. I have been working within health promotion for over 15 years, specialising in exercise rehabilitation. Most recently I have spent the last 10 years working for a GP referral programme for Knowsley council working with patients with varying medical conditions actively motivating and encouraging healthy behaviour change alongside physically delivering exercise sessions.

I also run my own business delivering fitness classes for health clubs and providing massage therapies to corporate business and individuals.

I enjoy running and open water swimming and my favourite thing to do is to spend time with my Labrador Mac.

I am very passionate about my Health Coach role and I enjoy the variety each day brings.

Nigel

My name is Nige, I’m a Health Coach and part of the well-being team for Brighter Birkenhead.

I’ve been supporting people in reaching their health and fitness goals, both in group coaching and personal training for over 25 years. I joined Primary Care Wirral in September 2021 and recently became certified as an Exercise Referral Instructor.

As a Health Coach I help individuals realise what matters to them, relating to the impact of both existing health conditions and unhealthy lifestyle behaviours. Coach- patient collaboration results in an ongoing and ever-evolving personalised programme that encompasses, healthy eating, increased physical activity and prevention/ self-management of medical conditions.

It’s both a passion and a privilege to work closely alongside patients, each of whom have a unique set of challenges and goals. My coaching aims to empower the individual with skills and knowledge and supports them in making positive sustainable changes to progress towards a healthier lifestyle.

I have previous diverse experience, rehabilitating clients using corrective exercise as well as coaching athletes in competitive Olympic Weightlifting as a licensed British Weightlifting Coach.

In my spare time I run a small business Personal Training private clients, looking after my own fitness and spending time with my family and two Terriers, Nugget & Chip.
